MBS Policies and Procedures Admission Decisions MBS candidates at Geisinger Commonwealth should expect to receive a decision approximately two to four weeks after their application is complete. Application Deadline The MBS application will open in January for the upcoming fall. The Graduate Advisory Committee (GAC) will review applications until the MBS class is full. Students are encouraged to submit their application as early as possible in order to receive full consideration. Applying to Medical School MBS students may apply to medical school while still enrolled in the MBS program or upon completion of the program. The faculty and staff at Geisinger Commonwealth will support our students’ endeavors, regardless of when and where students choose to apply. The MD Admissions Committee will hold applications from current MBS students until January, so that their progress at Geisinger Commonwealth can be considered. While the MD Admissions Committee does not specifically reserve spaces in the MD class for MBS graduates, many students have gained admission to the MD program at Geisinger Commonwealth. Enrollment Deposit & Refund Policy Accepted students must submit a $250 enrollment deposit within 14 days of receiving notification of their admissions decision. This deposit is only refundable if a student can submit proof of their acceptance into a medical school program. Feedback Due to the holistic nature of candidate review, it is not possible for the Graduate Advisory Committee (GAC) or the Admissions Staff to provide feedback for students who were not granted offered an interview or who were not offered admission to Geisinger Commonwealth. Future MD Applicants While Geisinger Commonwealth does not guarantee seats to in the MD class to its MBS graduates, many Geisinger Commonwealth alumni have gained admission to Geisinger Commonwealth’s Doctor of Medicine program. MCAT Scores The Graduate Advisory Committee (GAC) will consider MCAT scores no more than three years old at time of application. The optional Princeton Review MCAT preparatory course can be taken either the summer before or after the MBS program. This prep course usually runs from early June until late July, so interested applicants are encouraged to apply early so they can undergo the admissions process, receive a decision, and start the MCAT prep program in time for June. An additional $1500 deposit will be required if a student completes this course before the MBS program begins. However, this deposit will be applied to their fall tuition bill.
