Master of Biomedical Sciences (MBS) Program

The Master of Biomedical Sciences (MBS) degree program is directed at students who:

  • Seek a foundation in biomedical sciences to enter a career in medicine, public health, research, education, or biomedical technology.
  • Seek to strengthen academic qualifications to attain future career goals.

Master of Biomedical Sciences (MBS) Program Outcomes:

  • Apply the scientific method as an approach to address biological and health-related issues.
  • Enhance critical reasoning and problem solving skills.
  • Develop self-awareness in terms of professional aptitude and abilities in regards to future career goals.
  • Develop an understanding of current biomedical science as it applies to health.
  • Develop effective communication skills.
  • Demonstrate strong team skills facilitating collaboration
  • Demonstrate a skill set necessary to the development of a life-long learner.

The MBS Program provides students with a solid foundation in biomedical science and focuses on strengthening the student’s candidacy for medical school.

The MBS Program also provides an opportunity to explore and prepare for other professional educational opportunities and careers in biomedical and health science fields.

The MBS curriculum has been designed to provide students with a unique, personal learning experience to assist in career goal achievement. Small class size and a commitment to student-centered learning are partnered with individualized career and education planning services.

In addition to the above, MBS students are taught by many of the same instructors who teach in the medical degree program and learn in the same environment as Geisinger Commonwealth medical students. The MBS Program also features The Princeton Review, a comprehensive MCAT “hyper-learning” program, which helps students improve their MCAT scores. The review courses for the Dental Admissions Test (DAT) and the GRE (Graduate Records Examination) are also available.

Other hallmarks of the MBS program include:

  • Support from faculty and staff for students applying to medical school or pursuing careers in health-related fields
  • Course work to prepare for medical school and/or leadership roles in health-related careers
  • A dynamic learning environment

The MBS Program is designed to support student success:

MBS students who wish to apply to medical school are given a simulated medical school interview with feedback to help prepare for their interviews.

Based on meeting established criteria, current MBS students and graduates of the program will be guaranteed an interview for the MD program, if they wish to pursue a career in medicine.

Our MBS program is offered at Geisinger Commonwealth’s North Campus in Scranton, PA, or with the Baruch S. Blumberg Institute (BSBI) at the Pennsylvania Biotechnology Center in Doylestown, PA. Find out more about our MBS-Doylestown program.
