Pre-race day fundraisers

Our first Turkey Trot/Friends of the Poor fundraiser was Aug. 27 at the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders game. It was a beautiful, fun day and we had a great turnout! We raised $155 towards our Turkey Trot 5k/10k on Sunday, Nov. 5, and all proceeds support Friends of the Poor.

About Friends of the Poor

Friends of the Poor, based in Scranton, is a non-profit organization that seeks to ease the burden of living in poverty and enhance the quality of life for all who live in the low income community. The ministry has served the needs of residents in the greater Scranton area for more than 25 years and is an outreach ministry of the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary.

Each year, Friends of the Poor hosts a Thanksgiving dinner which serves several hundred people with resources that have been donated. The proceeds of Geisinger Commonwealth’s Turkey Trot 5K/10K will benefit this important event and the work of Friends of the Poor throughout the holiday season.

To learn more about Friends of the Poor and the work they do every day in our region, please visit their official website and Facebook page.
