Information Services and Technologies Department (ITS)

Geisinger Commonwealth’s Information Technologies and Services Department (ITS) provides overall design, development and management of the College’s information technology environment in support of the College’s mission and curriculum.

The department supports all regional campuses and the Geisinger Commonwealth network is available across all locations, creating an environment in which systems, individuals and communities interact seamlessly for:

  • learning
  • teaching
  • research
  • patient care
  • community outreach
  • administrative functions

Through technologies and services, Geisinger Commonwealth staff strives to maintain an environment that leads to new possibilities – new bodies of knowledge, new synergies, and new capabilities within Geisinger Commonwealth that in turn enable an environment desired and required by students, faculty, staff, affiliates and community stakeholders of the institution.

My Geisinger Commonwealth

My Geisinger Commonwealth is an internal portal that allows students, faculty and staff to have a virtual view of the institution and the resources available to them. The portal provides online course support and facilitates activities such as groups and organizations, wikis, blogs and select resources. It also serves as a vehicle for communicating with students via news/RSS feeds, announcements, task management, calendar events, and more.

Faculty members use the portal to post course assignments, documents, announcements, grades, etc. for each of their classes. They also use the discussion board to collaborate with the class. The My Geisinger Commonwealth portal also provides students, staff and faculty with in-depth information about:

  • admissions
  • regional campuses
  • graduate medical education
  • research
  • patient care
  • human resources
  • faculty affairs
  • information technology

The Student Services component of the portal includes:

  • financial aid
  • student affairs
  • Center for Learning Excellence
  • Clinical Skills and Simulation Center

The portal contains the audio/video delivery system and allows students to view or download course content at any time to a variety of form factors and devices including both browser enabled computers and the latest mobile devices. Classroom capture software is available to faculty members enabling them to provide students with an audio and video record of lectures and laboratory sessions through the portal.

Technology Development Center/Podcast Studio

The Technology Development Center (TDC) serves as a resource for faculty and students to edit audio or video content, record voice-over-PowerPoint podcasts, or create high-quality graphics. The TDC is equipped with audio, photo and video editing software and a flat-bed scanner. Training on TDC software is offered monthly, as well as on a case-by-case basis. Support is available during normal business hours. The TDC / Podcast Studio is located in the Auditorium.
